Constitutional Law

Program Overview

From theory to human rights and the Charter to Aboriginal issues, this specialization explores areas of importance in Canadian constitutional law, and comparative perspectives of the constitutional law of other countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom. Taught by an interdisciplinary faculty including academics, practitioners and Judges, students will develop an understanding of constitutional law that is unique and unparalleled in Canada.

Who is the Specialization for?

• Law graduates with legal work experience or a strong demonstrated interest in constitutional law.
• Professionals without a law degree who have significant related professional experience in government or public sector roles and a solid understanding of foundational constitutional principles. Such individuals who wish to develop an advanced knowledge of Canadian constitutional law.

Specialization Structure

Designed to meet the needs of working professionals across Canada and abroad, all required courses and most elective courses are available via video conferencing and are structured as either weekly evening sessions or 3-5 day intensives. Provided a student is flexible with elective choices, the specialization can be completed entirely through video conferencing. New students can start the specialization in the Fall or the Winter term, required courses are offered in alternating Winter terms. Students can complete their degree requirements exclusively through course work or through a combination of course work and a Major Research Paper.
