The Hon. Justice Shaun Shungi Nakatsuru

The HON. JUSTICE SHAUN NAKATSURU is a graduate of the University of Toronto Law School and was called to the bar in 1988. Hon. Justice Nakatsuru has considerable experience, both in the private sector and in government, in criminal and public law as a defence lawyer, regulatory prosecutor, and constitutional/human rights lawyer. He has argued cases at all levels of court.

Presently, he is counsel with the Constitutional Law Branch of the Ministry of the Attorney General, litigating constitutional cases. Hon. Justice Nakatsuru is an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto Law School and Osgoode Hall Law School, teaching trial advocacy and advanced criminal law. He has further been a speaker/instructor in programs with the Advocates Society, the Law Society of Upper Canada, Osgoode Professional Development Program and the Canadian Institute. Hon. Justice Nakatsuru has served as a member of the boards of various community organizations. Presently, he is a director of the Association of Law Officers of the Crown. His publications include a text An Introduction to Criminal Law 4th Ed., Carswell, Thompson Professional Publishing, Toronto, 2000 and Review of A Theory of the Trial, (2000), 50 University of Toronto Law Journal, 363.
