Completion of this program counts towards the
Advanced Certificate in Adjudication

In one intensive day, you’ll learn from subject matter experts the powers of the subconscious and appreciate the influence on our decision making and thought processes. You will get to practice decision making skills in a safe, zero-consequence environment with opportunity for constructive feedback. The course will cover:

  • Intuitive versus deliberative decision-making (interactive session involving cognitive testing)
  • The modern approach to statutory interpretation: how to apply and reconcile the rules
  • Limits on the exercise of discretion
  • Considerations pertaining to onus and burden of proof
  • Decision-making templates for administrative tribunals

Fees

Fees include attendance, program materials, continental breakfast, lunch and break refreshments.

Program Changes

We will make every effort to present the certificate program as advertised, but it may be necessary to change the dates, location, speakers or content with little or no notice. In the event of program cancellation, York University and Osgoode Hall Law School’s liability is limited to reimbursement of paid fees.

Cancellations and Substitutions

Substitution of registrants is permitted at any time. If you are unable to find a substitute, a full refund is available if a cancellation request is received in writing 14 days prior to the program date. If a cancellation request is made with less than 14 days notice, a $75 administration fee will apply. No other refund is available.

  • graduates of the SOAR/OsgoodePD Certificate in Adjudication;
  • those with two or more years of full-time experience as an adjudicator, OR an equivalent amount of experience as a part-time adjudicator; OR
  • senior tribunal staff, such as counsel, who work closely with adjudicators and would benefit from advanced training in adjudication
