Proof of English Language Ability
Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Testing
To be eligible to apply to our program, all applicants must show proof of advanced English language ability. This can only be done by showing proof of having taken a CLB test and achieving a minimum overall Benchmark score of 8.
We also accept current IELTS (minimum 7.0 overall) or TOEFL iTB (minimum 95 overall) test results.
CLB testing is also used to determine your level for Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC).

Permanent Residents, Landed Immigrants and Convention Refugees are eligible for a free CLB language assessment through the YMCA, Centre for Education and Training, Welcome Centres and other settlement agencies that provide the service.
How do I make an appointment?
Book an appointment to have your language assessed by the YMCA or contact your local newcomer settlement agency for more information.

Call 416-925-5462 Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm to book an appointment. Appointments are available during the day, in the evening and on Saturdays. It is very important to come on time.
