This unique OsgoodePD education webinar has been developed by education law and insurance experts to provide education professionals and their advisors with a clear understanding of the legal risks and best practices surrounding school excursions.

This after-school webinar will drill down on the law, risk management and the practical best practices you need in order to ensure you are effectively dealing with the complex issues you face around school excursion, including:

• What are the legal responsibilities school boards have towards their students?
• What is the standard of care that is owed?
• Understanding the law and policies that should guide your actions when planning and engaging in field trips
• The process of risk management – what are the steps and strategies required to properly assess and reduce the risks associated with field trips?
• Is your School Board policy enough?
• Does the policy provide guidance to staff in identifying and reducing risks?
• Are staff aware of the policy and actively following it?
• Case law update – a review of recent case law and unreported claims settlements will be reviewed and analyzed to answer the following:
  • How does implementing risk management strategies eliminate or reduce the risks and severity of losses suffered?
  • Did the school boards meet their standard of care in the cases reviewed?
