Quoting costs to avoid surprises or writing off costs is not an art – it’s a skill that lawyers need to learn in order to operate sustainable practices or build business cases for required resources.

If you’re in private practice and regularly quoting fees, building budgets, or being asked to quote on a particular matter, you need to know how to cost your services, and perhaps the services of a third party.

“How to Quote/Budget Legal Fees” will provide you with the key elements necessary to both develop a legal project budget and effectively communicate this to your client. Specific topics will include:

  • Scoping the retainer – from formal RFP through to e-mail requests from clients – for routine, repetitive and unique matters
  • Setting expectations:  how to establish the specific time, scope, cost and quality elements that apply to each matter
  • Determining what information you need in order to prepare reliable quotes/budgets
  • Strategy and format of response

This session with provide you with the information, tools, documents/checklists you need to quote reliable fees and set informed budgets.
