Child and spousal support are the cornerstones of most family law files. Mastery of this area of family law is critical, yet it is constantly evolving, making it difficult for legal practitioners to ensure they are up-to-date and knowledgeable on the latest case law and procedural changes.

This annual OsgoodePD program, designed and delivered by leading family law experts, is an in depth discussion of the current and emerging issues in child and spousal support, focusing on some of the more challenging aspects of this practice.

As we develop the 2016 agenda, please note some of the following past topics that have been included:

  • Does a surviving spouse have a duty to become self-sufficient?
  • Re-partnering or re-marriage and the impact on the quantum and duration of spousal support
  • Court orders and the consequences of non-compliance
  • Dealing with self-reps: what you can do and shouldn’t do
  • Understanding powers of the Court under s.37(2.1) of the FLA where there has been a change of circumstance or new evidence has come to light
  • Ethical consideration in income determination
