Program Overview
This specialization gives students the opportunity to strengthen their analytical and problem-solving skills and deepen their understanding of the policies and principles that underlie intellectual property laws. The Intellectual Property Law specialization will broaden your knowledge of the social, economic, and technological considerations presented by emerging legal issues in this rapidly changing field.Who is the Specialization for?
- Law graduates with legal work experience or a strong demonstrated interest in intellectual property law.
- Professionals without a law degree who have significant related professional experience in intellectual property and wish to develop an advanced knowledge of intellectual property law for professional purposes.
Specialization Structure
Designed to meet the needs of working professionals located across Canada and abroad, students in this specialization have the option to complete their degree almost entirely by distance learning. There is only one course, “Introduction to Intellectual Property: Theoretical Frameworks”, that requires in-person attendance – all other courses in this specialization can be completed via video conferencing. Courses are structured as either weekly evening sessions or 3-5 day intensives. The Intellectual Property Law specialization is a cohort based specialization where courses progressively build upon one another. New students are accepted into the specialization only once every three years.
