Program Overview
OsgoodePD’s various LLM specializations provide graduate-level learning across a number of disciplines. The General LLM provides students the flexibility to build a specialization from three major areas of interest.
In the Professional General LLM, students can choose courses from multiple LLM specializations being offered during their time of study. The General LLM provides a high level of customization for lawyers wishing to craft a unique specialization of study drawing from over
50 LLM courses a year.
Who is this Specialization for?
Students must have a law degree to be eligible for admission to the General LLM. The General program is most suitable for those who want more flexibility in course options than those offered in a more focused specialization. It is intended for those who already have some legal work experience in the chosen area of specialization. Students will have the option to enter advanced courses in their specializations bypassing any foundational courses in your program.
The Full-time program is only for students who plan to attend courses in person in Toronto. Videoconferencing is not available.
Specialization Structure
The Full-Time General Law specialization provides students with the opportunity to build a customized program to meet their professional development goals. Students take 2-4 courses (12 credits) per term and can select courses from all LLM Specializations excluding Canadian Common Law. The degree is completed over one year (three terms) and requirements can be completed through coursework only or through a combination of coursework and a Major Research Paper.
Before applying to the General Law Full-Time specialization please note the following:
Students in the General Law specialization cannot take electives from the Canadian Common Law specialization. For students interested in meeting your NCA requirements, the Canadian Common Law or International Business Law specializations might provide a better option – try our
