Program Overview
This highly lauded specialization balances theory and practice to create a unique learning experience. Students have the chance to step outside the existing limitations of traditional conflict resolution processes and explore new approaches to resolving disputes. Students will explore: underlying causes of conflict among people and organizations, examine the methods available to resolve conflicts, learn to function more effectively when resolving conflict as a representative or a neutral, and improve their analysis, problem-solving and negotiation skills.Who is the Specialization for?
- Law graduates with legal work experience or a strong demonstrated interest in dispute resolution.
- Professionals without a law degree who have at least five years of relevant senior work experience and wish to develop an advanced academic and practical understanding of dispute resolution for professional purposes.
Specialization Structure
The Dispute Resolution specialization is designed to be highly interactive and immersive, as such, required courses are scheduled as 4-5 day intensive sessions with in-person attendance (video conferencing is not available in this specialization). A new cohort begins each Fall in which and students are required to travel to Toronto once per term (twice in the first term) to complete courses. Students can complete their degree requirements exclusively through course work or through a combination of course work and a Major Research Paper.Degree Requirements Overview
