Saroja Kuruganty

Saroja Kuruganty is trade counsel with the Government of Ontario’s Ministry of the Attorney General/Ministry of International Trade, Legal Services Branch. In this capacity, she provides advice on trade negotiations, trade and investment disputes and various government measures to ensure consistency with Ontario’s trade obligations. Saroja previously worked at the former Ministry of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure/Ministry of Research and Innovation as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Trade Policy Branch, where she focused on trade and investment disputes and procurement matters, and as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Strategic Policy Branch, where she provided Cabinet support. Saroja also has gained experience in the area of corporate procurement policy at the former Ministry of Government Services, with a focus on procurement in the context of trade obligations.

Prior to joining the Government of Ontario, Saroja practiced corporate/commercial litigation as an associate lawyer at Kramer Barristers and Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP. Saroja also summered and articled at Lang Michener LLP (now McMillan).

Saroja obtained her LL.B and Master of Development Economics (M.D.E.) from Dalhousie University, along with a B.A. Honours in economics and a B.A. in development studies from Queen’s University. Saroja completed a portion of her law degree studying international and comparative business law at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg, Germany, and was called to the bar in 2009.
