Lawrence Haber

LAWRENCE HABER is a former financial industry executive and former corporate and securities lawyer. He has had a diverse career involving a wide variety of responsibilities and experiences in relation to the capital markets. Currently, he is the President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of BENEV Capital Inc. (a Toronto Stock Exchange listed environmental services company), where he has served in such capacity since June, 2011, and where he has a strategic mandate to implement a substantial reconfiguration of this company through one or more transformational transactions.

Mr. Haber is a member of the Board of Directors of the Investor Education Fund ( a non – profit corporation which has a mandate to develop and deliver financial education, which is funded by settlements and fines from Ontario Securities Commission enforcement proceedings). Mr. Haber also recently taught a course on Corporate Transactions, as a Course Instructor in the Osgoode Hall Law School Professional LL.M. program.

From November 2005 to February 2009, Mr. Haber was with the DundeeWealth Inc. group of companies, where he held a number of executive and management positions, including Executive Vice-President and Co-Head of Dundee Capital Markets (the capital markets division of DundeeWealth Inc. which included DundeeWealth’s investment banking, equity sales and trading, investment research, foreign exchange and retail fixed income activities), and Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Dundee Securities Corporation. As a member of the Dundee executive team, Mr. Haber was integrally involved in the planning, execution and implementation of corporate development and strategy, and in the development of new areas of business. He was also responsible for non financial risk management in the firm’s capital markets and retail brokerage operations.

From January 2001 to July 2005, Mr. Haber was the Executive Vice-President, Corporate Development and Governance, of National Bank Financial Inc. At National Bank Financial, Mr. Haber was a member of NBF’s executive team and had a broad range of governance, corporate, management and non financial risk management responsibilities. At NBF, Mr. Haber’s responsibilities included integral involvement in the planning, execution and implementation of NBF’s corporate development activities, including strategic investments and the development of new lines of business.

At both National Bank Financial and Dundee, Mr. Haber sat on key internal boards and executive and operating committees, and was integrally involved in representing these organizations in their relationships at the senior level with regulators, self-regulatory organizations and stock exchanges. At various times, he was a media spokesman, and was responsible for supervising functions as diverse as marketing, communications, public relations, reputational risk management, legal and compliance. In addition, at Dundee, Mr. Haber had P&l responsibility for the capital markets business unit.

Prior to 2001, Mr. Haber was a corporate and securities lawyer and partner in the Toronto law firm of Fogler, Rubinoff LLP for fifteen years, where his practice included extensive experience in a wide range of corporate finance, M & A advisory, securities regulatory and general corporate and business matters.

Mr. Haber is a past member of the Securities Advisory Committee to the Ontario Securities Commission, and has served as a director and trustee of several public, private and non-profit companies and agencies, as well as on various securities industry committees. In recent years, Mr. Haber was a director of InvestInKids (a non-profit charitable organization), and was a member of the Working Group on Financial Literacy (which provided the Government of Ontario and the Ontario Curriculum Council with its report and recommendations regarding financial literacy education for the Ontario Public School System).

Mr. Haber holds a BA (Hons) in Political Science from the University of Toronto, and an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University.
