Ara P. Arzumanian

Ara P. Arzumanian has a B.A. in philosophy from Trinity College, University of Toronto, a LL.B from Dalhousie Law School, and a LL.M., Energy and Infrastructure Law from Osgoode Hall Law School. Following his call to the Bar in 1995, he established and operated his own law firm for 15 years, focusing on technology and business/corporate-commercial law. During this
time, he practiced in association with a leading boutique law firm, as well as an established downtown Toronto law firm; he represented and advised technology start-ups (including one of Canada’s top 50 fastest growing technology companies), public companies (including one of Canada’s two largest quick-service restaurant chains) and SMEs (small and medium enterprises). He is a previous Chair of the Information Technology and E-Commerce section of the Ontario Bar Association, VP Legal of the Toronto Board of Trade Young Professionals, and has been quoted on technology law
matters in such national publications as Canadian Business magazine and The Globe and Mail newspaper. He has been a guest lecturer at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies, and at Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology, and has written a number of case comments and articles in such journals as Supply Chain & Logistics Journal and Information & Technology Law. He is also a registered Trade-mark Agent. Ara is on the Board of the Mississauga Arts Council, and he is currently the Chair of the Canadian Electricity Association’s Legal Committee.

Ara joined the Hydro One Legal Department in 2008, and since that time, he has been part of the deal teams that have negotiated the purchase of many of the major, enterprise-wide software and other technology systems at Hydro One, as well as closing Municipal Electric Utility acquisitions. He regularly advises on matters relating to the following areas and lines of business:

  • information technology and intellectual property;
  • procurement / supply chain;
  • Customer Care;
  • R&D / research collaboration agreements – Ara has been involved in dozens of R&D, research collaboration and CDM pilot projects;
  • CDM (Conservation and Demand Management);
  • other corporate-commercial matters
