A Joint Presentation of SOAR and OsgoodePD.

This webinar is part of the Ethics in Administrative Justice: Webinar Series.

Professional regulatory bodies – including colleges, universities, law societies and associations – have multi-dimensional mandates. Not only can they control admission to a profession, they may also regulate, issue licences, receive and investigate complaints, prosecute misconduct and adjudicate the prosecution. How can this occur under one roof?

This session will explore the principles of administrative justice and how integrity can be maintained in these environments. Topics include:

  • How does a regulatory body, professional college, association or law society promote and preserve an image of fairness and impartiality?
  • Understanding who is your client?
    • Who are you counsel/advisor to? For whom?
  • What role does an appeal board play? How is arm’s length maintained? Is there information-sharing?
  • How do proceedings and outcomes impact the individual member, membership (in general) and the public?
